Big Wreck: In Loving Memory Of…

Big Wreck waste no time on In Loving Memory Of… making it clear exactly what kind of band they are: a loud, slightly arty post-grunge act, with a pinch of neo-prog to flavor their particular brand of hard rock. Standing just short of metal on some tracks and hinting at their love of progressive rock on others, Big Wreck don’t really fit into any particular genre neatly. Each track is a subtly layered opus, replete with technically proficient musicianship, but is put together in such a manner that the complicated nature of the music is somewhat masked by the dense soundscape. Regrettably, Big Wreck seem to lack the songwriting chops (at least at this stage in their existence) to make the thirteen tracks on their debut stand apart from each other. In Loving Memory Of… shows potential, but is not really a compelling listen.
