Sometimes you just want everything to be calm, simple, and happy. Charm School is here to help you with that. It’s exactly the kind of music you’d expect to get when a couple of computer nerds hook up with a couple of school teachers and make an album: clever, quirky, cheerful and — dare I say? — cute songs. “Little Black Ache” and “Penitentiary Bound” will make you tap your toes and sing along, while “Things Are What You Make of Them” and “Eve of Destruction” will take you to a nice, tranquil place without boring you. Charm School isn’t quite “rock out” and it’s not quite “mellow out,” but NPR calls it “vibrant, vivid, and refreshingly different,” and I’d be inclined to agree.
