Atmosphere: You Can’t Imagine How Much Fun We’re Having
Rating: Atmosphere are back with their fourth full-length and first since 2003’s Seven’s Travels. MC Slug and producer Ant collaborated earlier this year with Murs for the second Felt album, but the sound of this album is a step away from that aesthetic. Ant’s beats are still dope, and Slug is still a talented MC, but he got away from his emo-rap schtick a little bit on Felt’s latest record, to fine effect. Here, Slug is back in touch with his emotions, writing odes to his son and drinking to forget his problems. That’s not really a problem in and of itself, but his verses are much better when he sounds relaxed. The production is great, as always, with nary a weak track from Ant. Anybody who enjoyed Felt 2 or Atmosphere’s previous work will probably find something of value on You Can’t Imagine…, which is on par with the rest of their short catalogue.
