State of the Beet Farm Address

Album cover for State of the Beet Farm Address Rating:

Today, March 10th, 2006, marks the first anniversary of the day MusicBeet was launched. One year ago we posted our first reviews (of old albums in our collections), rated our first albums, invited our first guests to the site. Much has changed since March 10th, 2005, and there are more changes (I prefer to think of them as improvements) to come in 2006.

Since that day, MusicBeet has grown steadily, although slowly. Our content has evolved from whatever albums I had laying around my room to new releases sent directly to us by labels and promotional companies, allowing MusicBeet’s reviews to stay relevant to the current scene. We’ve also changed our rating system to allow for half-Beets, so that you can tell the difference between Broken Social Scene’s awesome self-titled album, and Parry Gripp’s eternal classic. We’ve also had our share of difficulties, like a three-month software problem that prevented us from adding new content. However, things are pretty well squared away now, and the future is bright here on the Farm.

As always, reader participation is encouraged. All of us Beet Farmers would love for you to comment on reviews and articles we’ve written, or, if you feel so inclined, to write your own album reviews or music-related articles. We want MusicBeet.com to be a community, a place where readers don’t just read, they contribute. Our writing is not handed down on stone tablets from God, but is just our personal opinions and critiques of art. We want to know what you think, so please feel free to tell us!

We hope you’ve enjoyed the last year as much as we have. It’s been a wonderful beginning to what we hope is a long, fulfilling journey. Stick around, it’ll only get better.

– Kevin
