I’m music addict, temporary college dropout, and self-proclaimed nerd. I was a college radio DJ (90.7 KJHK, Lawrence) and an aspiring rock star playing bass in a fledgling band called Galactic Acid (although I voted to name the band Nine-Fingered Frodo and the Ring of Doom), and another fledgling band called The Candy Cane Test. Now I’m an aspiring music writer, or radio DJ, or rock star. Wanna hire me? Like most everyone, my first music experiences came from my parents and my older brother. At a young age I learned to love classic rock and jazz-fusion of the 60s and 70s, graduating to more recent music as I became aware of it.

I’d also like to think that I have a good deal of knowledge when it comes to music. I have an unquenchable thirst for knowledge of music. I sit around and read album reviews at pitchforkmedia.com and allmusic.com just for fun (and try not to steal their ideas for my own reviews). And as much as I love genre-bending music and believe that there are only two kinds of music (good and bad), I also love to categorize all the music I have. I have wasted a colossal amount of time making a spreadsheet detailing into which genres artists fit. At this writing, my spreadsheet has 1251 artists that fit into 255 genres. There would be more genres, but my spreadsheet won’t hold any more columns. At any rate, all of that is to say that I love music of all kinds, from jazz and blues, to rock, pop, hip-hop, and electronica. I’ll never get around to reviewing everything I want to, but I’ll try.

  • What I’m listening to right now: Squarepusher - Music Is Rotted One Note
  • Most under appreciated band: Clann Zu
  • Flawless Albums:
  • Buy their “Greatest Hits” - The Doobie Brothers, Blur, Eric Clapton, The Eagles, Stone Temple Pilots, Goo Goo Dolls
